The California State University system is the largest and most diverse university system in the United States. With 23 campuses, nearly 447,000 students and 45,000 faculty and staff, CSU awards nearly half of all bachelor's degrees and one-third of all master's degrees in the entire state of California.
Like many State university systems nationwide, CSU has looked to centralize software purchases to standardize instruction and realize cost savings. The CSU Chancellor's Office signed a system-wide agreement to offer Turnitin to all its campuses in 2010; 22 of the 23 campuses have opted to use the service.
"Faculty are increasingly comfortable with using digital tools, thanks largely to the influence of students who are now digital natives," explains Kathy Fernandes, director of Learning Design and Technologies at CSU. "Turnitin is recognized as the best solution on the market to address academic integrity and the efficiencies are obvious to instructors as they make better use of their time to provide really good feedback to students across the curriculum."
